AI for Africa Launch – Kenya

April 17, 2019

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to solve some of the most pressing challenges that impact Africa and drive growth and development in core sectors: agriculture; healthcare; delivery of public services; and financial services. Forward thinking policy-makers, innovative start-ups, global technology partners, civil society groups, and international global stakeholders are already mobilising to promote the growth of a vibrant AI ecosystem in Africa.

To ensure Africans can access the full potential of this technology, Microsoft commissioned Access Partnership, a leading technology consultancy, with the elaboration of a white paper titled “Artificial Intelligence for Africa: An Opportunity for Growth, Development, and Democratisation”. The paper highlights the significant opportunities that AI can bring to the continent and identifies risks and challenges associated to the technology. It also offers recommendations as to the type of framework that countries should consider in order to maximise the benefits and reach of AI.

The white paper serves as the foundation of a series of events organised by Microsoft in leading countries across the continent.

The event, hosted by Strathmore University Law School and Access Partnership, will gather experts and thought leaders in the field for insightful discussions on the opportunities and challenges that AI brings to Kenya. It will also allow us to explore how Kenya can make the most of AI in a way that fosters economic and social growth, development, and inclusion.
